“Psss, I have a world of girls to educate about HPV, can you help?”
“One generation working to save another.” Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a disease that has already affected over 20 million YOUNG people in their late teens and early twenties.
KNOW THE FACTS:
• There are several types HPV that may cause cervical cancer and there is NO cure.
• At least 50% of people who have had sex will have HPV at sometime in their lives. • The only way to detect HPV or Cervical Cancer is an annual Pap smear test.
• There might not be any signs or symptoms.
• A person may have HPV even if years have passed since he or she has had sex.
• There is NO cure for the virus (HPV) itself and some kinds may cause problems like genital warts, Cervical Cancer or Penile Cancer.
• Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections account for about 50% of STDs diagnosed among
15-24 year-olds each year.
Shades of Green campaign, serves as the umbrella for a suite of targeted educational initiatives designed to inform and educate teens and women of all ages about the prevention, early detection and quality treatment of HPV and cervical cancer.
Through the campaign, Shades of Green we will be able to do much more than host events, educational fairs and sessions, we will be able to ultimately save lives and bring inspiration to the young lives already affected by this life threatening disease.
